I can’t possibly convey to you how much I like the band Elbow. This little british band has been flying mostly under the radar for the last 18 years, creating some of the most melancholy and beautiful music I’ve ever heard. Three or four of the songs on “Cast of Thousands” (their second album) have the rare power to rearrange me on the inside. It’s hard to explain…
But their most recent release, “The Seldom Seen Kid”, takes things to the next level. . .where the mingling of sadness, gorgeous melodies, genius production, outright celebration, and asking big questions creates something much bigger than it’s parts. Consider it their “Joshua Tree”, but with fewer cowboy hats.
So you can imagine my excitement to learn that Elbow has recently recorded their entire “Seldom Seen Kid” album live at Abby Road with the BBC Orchestra. It’s practically all my favorite things wrapped together. Check out two of the songs below and consider supporting them by ordering the DVD here. I’d love to hear what you think!
