a venture into reality…

“To worship God, on the other hand, is a venture into reality, a disciplined exit from the delusional fields created around our idols, a constant pull toward the margins of what we know. The worship of God is about awareness, about mindfulness, about reverence for the gift of life, about regaining perspective, beyond self-expression, beyond our beloved religions.  By worshiping God, we turn our sights farther, rescued from a preoccupation with ourselves and with our own life.”

  1. I really like this quote. I am in a recovery program right now, and there is a considerable amount of talk about being restored to sanity by God. In the past, and even sometimes now, I have wondered whether my faith in God was delusional. But the longer I do this recovery program, I see that faith in God is freeing and true. I see that in essence, God himself/Jesus himself is truth. Knowing truth is beginning to set me free. I find that my ideas I have had about life have often been delusional, inaccurate, and destructive, whereas the truth that God invites me into is nothing short of restorative and freeing. May I keep going, may we all keep going and know that Jesus is truth, and that he is good. May I know, and may we all know that he has come so that we might have life and have it to the full.
